[PROJECT OVERVIEW & QUALIFICATIONS]
We are hiring experienced audiovisual translators to help create American English subtitles (.srt format) for footage received in Swahili for an upcoming documentary project exploring the historical legacy of USAID in East Africa and the real-world impact of the agency’s 2025 dismantling.
Subtitlers must have a native-level command of Swahili, 4+ years of experience delivering time-synced .srts (English subtitles for Swahili), and strong research skills when tackling translations for raw audio.
The raw footage will contain a mix of longer interviews, short interviews with citizens, and longer vérité scenes.
The project does not have a confirmed start date but we are currently hiring with an anticipated project start of late January 2026.
Invoices will be paid net 30 via bank transfer.
Please note we are only interested in hiring freelancers directly. Agencies please do not apply at this time.
