[ABOUT SAGA]
—————–
SAGA Translations is a Brooklyn-based translation studio providing English subtitles for international news and documentaries. We are proud to partner with some of the world’s biggest names in global storytelling, including the New York Times, the BBC, National Geographic, and PBS.
[PROJECT OVERVIEW & QUALIFICATIONS]
—————–
SAGA Translations is seeking experienced linguists to produce American English subtitles (.srt) for raw footage covering the current developments in Venezuela. Priority will be given to native speakers of Venezuelan Spanish and professionals who can demonstrate a proven track record of translating Venezuelan-specific content.
While the project includes straightforward interviews, successful candidates must be highly adept at extracting clear subtitles from complex, non-linear Spanish dialogue recorded in the field. This assignment involves high-intensity footage (protests, street noise, and spontaneous interviews) where audio clarity is frequently compromised. We require specialists who can ensure every audible moment is captured with precision.
Working in a pre-edit workflow, you will handle footage immediately after it is shot. As the primary filter for our editorial team, your subtitles serve as the essential window into this raw material, directly informing every creative and journalistic decision made during the edit. Because our producers and editors may not speak Spanish, they rely on your work to identify “golden moments” and the critical plot points that define the final story. In a fast-moving news cycle, your accuracy ensures that vital information is not lost on the cutting room floor.
[TYPE OF FOOTAGE EXPECTED] The material will include a mix of long-form interviews, short interviews with citizens, and extended vérité (unscripted, fly-on-the-wall) scenes.
[SCHEDULE]
Start Date: Monday, January 5th.
Initial Term: Through Thursday, January 8th (possible extension/additional projects as the situation evolves)
Daily availability is not required; assignments will be distributed on a day-to-day basis according to your individual schedule to ensure comprehensive coverage.
[PAYMENT] Invoices are paid Net 30 via bank transfer.
