Project Overview
This project involves a complete rework of a famous airline existing in-flight announcement manual, with the following tasks:
Translating some sections from scratch.
Reviewing and revising existing materials for other sections.
Key Challenges
This is a high-stakes project, as it directly impacts:
Passenger Safety: Ensuring all content is clear and compliant with aviation regulations.
Brand Image: Reflecting the airline reputation as a global leader.
Oral Fluency: Balancing the highly regulated source text with conversational fluency, keeping in mind that not all flight attendants or passengers will have strong literacy skills in the target language.
Project Phases
The project is divided into two key phases:
Manual Review: Comprehensive revision and quality assurance of the manual content.
Workshops (in February/March): Interactive sessions with the airline staff to review and discuss the updated manual in detail. Some will be held in person in Montreal, others remotely.
Linguist Profiles We Need
We are looking for linguists with the following experience:
Extensive revision and quality assurance (QA) experience.
Expertise in translating highly regulated, potentially life-critical content.
Marketing translation skills with a strong eye for oral fluency.
Client-facing “language lead” experience, including business and presentation skills.
Logistics
Workshop Format: A mix of in-person and remote sessions. While the client prefers in-person workshops, they cannot cover travel costs. Therefore, we aim to find linguists located near Montreal (or nearby areas like Ottawa) for certain languages.
