The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor is seeking a translator/interpreter (Bilingual-Spanish) to work in its Special Investigations Bureau (SIB). SIB works with federal, state, and international law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute drug trafficking and money laundering organizations active in New York City and elsewhere. Accurate and reliable Spanish language translation and interpretation assistance is critical for SIB to achieve its objectives.Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited ToAccurately translate, interpret, and transcribe Spanish language recorded communications in a timely manner.Accurately testify before the grand jury and at trial when required.Identify, translate, and interpret Spanish language evidence contained within cellular telephones and other devices. Provide accurate simultaneous interpretation during proffers, debriefings, and other meetings with Spanish speaking defendants, witnesses, confidential informants, and others. Proofread translations and transcriptions. Provide other translation and interpretation services that may arise. Perform related tasks as necessary.Adhere to all DANY employee policies as well as Unit standards and best practices related to interpretation and translations.Qualification RequirementsMust be detail oriented and possess knowledge, skills, and ability to produce high-quality work product. Ability to meet case related deadlines, often in high-pressure situations. Must be organized and have the ability to respond quickly to assignments. Must have the ability to work well with others and in teams. Must possess overall excellent communication skills.(written and oral)Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.Comfort and familiarity with a wide variety of accents, slang, and colloquial language and expressions in Spanish. Demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality and code of ethics for professional responsibilities.Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.Academic requirements and related field training.Court certified, required.Experience with legal terminology.Proficiency test will be administered.Preferred Requirements/Skills:Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish. Native fluency preferred, but not required.
