POSITION TITLE: English/Spanish Translator – Front Office SupportRECRUITED BY: Director, Bilingual Services DepartmentIMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director, Bilingual Services DepartmentPosition SummaryThe translator should have the ability to understand and accept the philosophy of the Bilingual Education Department in reference to the education of English Learners (ELs), have basic knowledge of bilingual education and its terminology, and have excellent English & Spanish (listening, speaking, reading and writing) skills.Minimum QualificationsMust be bilingual/bicultural in Spanish and EnglishAdvanced knowledge of written Spanish and EnglishCollege degree requiredMust be able to use Google Suite (including advanced knowledge of Google Sheets)Trained in the use of PowerSchool preferredKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesGood communication between coworkers and third partiesAbility to follow proceduresExcellent organization skillsAbility to use initiative and work without close supervisionUpdate and review all paperwork pertaining to translationsAbility to exercise tact and discretion when dealing with people and to maintain confidentiality with regard to student / family informationSensitivity to cultural differencesPerformance ResponsibilitiesTranslate (English/Spanish) documents and maintain files and translations logInterpret in meetings/expulsion hearings as neededAssist parents in completing various school forms, transportation information and school locationsHandle student registrations/files and inform parents of EL services – to include placement testing if certified or on EPUpdate and review all paperwork pertaining to registrations, including magnet registrationsGeneral clerical tasks (fax, copies, file, etc.)Assist in maintaining BSD websitePerform other duties as assignedWork-related CharacteristicsIs sensitive to the needs of Multilingual Learners and their familiesMaintains confidentiality about student and family informationHas consistent daily attendance and follows procedures for reporting absencesReports for work on time – is punctualUses time constructivelyWorks cooperatively with other BSD/MRSC and building staffDisplays a positive attitudeAdapts to changes in work assignmentsAccepts direction and constructive criticism in a positive mannerDisplays appropriate initiative and self-direction with minimal supervisionContributes with innovative ideas and changesRecognizes situations where staff response is necessary and reacts appropriatelySpecial NotationThe position requires a flexible scheduling of work responsibilities and, at times, evening work.
