The app content comprises a list of the 3000 most frequently used English words, 600+ phrases from the phrase book, pop-up translations for all the screen content (labels and instructions) plus video transcripts and grammar tutorials. This has all been translated into 54 languages using Google Translate, but the translations need checking to eliminate errors and to improve them where necessary. Accurate and thoughtful translations are vital to the credibility and usefulness of the app. After the initial editing job, Translation Editors are also responsible for editing new content on an ongoing basis as this is added occasionally in major updates.
We’re still seeking Translation Editors for the following language locales:
Albanian, Amharic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Javanese, Kazakh, Khmer, Lao, Malay, Marathi, Mongolian, Myanmar, Nepali, Norwegian, Persian, European Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Slovak, Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, Yoruba.
You’ll need to be a native speaker or have a high level of proficiency in the translation language, plus at least a strong intermediate level of English. Translation work experience is an advantage, but enthusiasm for language learning and commitment to quality work and to the success of this app project are most important.
Compensation
While the most significant work is the initial translation set, edited at the start of the project, the ongoing responsibility for editing updates is reflected in the compensation structure. As sales and advertising revenue is generated by downloads of and engagement with the app, 5% of net global revenue is equally divided among all Translation Editors every three months on an ongoing basis, so effectively each receives 5% of revenue from an ‘average’ locale. Access is given to online dashboards showing revenue generation to ensure transparency. You are employed as a freelancer, responsible for your own tax compliance.
Initially the app will launch for Android devices, but an iOS version for Apple devices is planned which will use the same translation sets. Upon its release, you will also receive a share of revenue from the iOS app along similar principles although terms may differ due to associated development costs.
