Spanish Translator

ESS is seeking an Interpreter/Translator to assist in effective communication between Spanish-speaking families and students in the Sharon City School District in matters related to Student Services, including document translation, meeting translation, and sharing of information and processes.Job ResponsibilitiesTranslates both written and verbal communication, related to Student Services, from English to Spanish and Spanish to EnglishInteracts and develops working relationships with professionals, staff, children, and their families using positive interpersonal, oral, and written communication in English and SpanishFacilitates oral communication between the school, the student’s family and appropriate public agencies related to Student Services by interpreting telephone conversations, conference calls, in-person conversations, etc.Translates school-wide messages into Spanish, when needed.Proofreads other translations and provides feedback.Assumes responsibility for quality of translation work submitted by reviewing, editing, and revising own work and quality of interpretation by clarifying ideas and messages to assist with understanding.Serves as a liaison between school and the community.Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model.Maintains the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students’ information, progress, and records.Assumes other responsibilities assigned by supervisor and/or school administrator.Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required.Ability to fluently read, write, and speak in English and Spanish required.One year experience working in an educational setting and/or service-oriented agency serving Spanish-speaking families preferred.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the public.Ability to maintain cultural sensitivity when relaying concepts and ideas between languages.Standard clearances and health forms will be required before hire.
