Job Title: Subtitle Originators (Translators)
Description: Translation and localisation of TV show and movie subtitles & dubs
Training is provided in the form of online tutorials.
Work is done online and you have direct access to project coordinators in the US, Singapore and London when you need support.
Translation work can be done in conjunction with your other freelance projects, provided it is not work for the same client through a vendor other than TVT.
Pay:
You are paid by the file. Pay is based on programme runtime minutes (anything from 2 mins to full movie length)

The NDA does not commit you to work should you not be happy with the rates.
Candidates must:
– Full understanding of the source language, including idioms and jargon.
– Native speaker of Simplified Chinese – excellent knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation plus ongoing engagement with the living language. Cultural sensitivity and extensive understanding of terminological/cultural nuances.- audio-visual translation experience: minimum 2 full years seasoned,
– The ideal candidate will have strong linguistic skills in both English and at least one of the non-English Source Languages listed above, ideally having translation and/or subtitling experience.
– Ability to self-review and edit.
– Ability to adhere to instructions, guidelines, and best practices and meticulous attention to detail.
– Proactive and self-sufficient. Actively research terms and content. Escalate questions and issues when necessary. Exercise good judgment in ambiguous situations.
– Excellent time management to ensure all deadlines are met.
– Knowledge of subtitling conventions and standard practices, e.g. condensing, rephrasing, reading speed, character limits, time codes, line and positioning compliance, safe areas and all restrictions (legal and otherwise), etc.
– Tech-savvy, a logical thinker, quick at adopting new tools and technologies.
– Ideally has experience working with at least one popular subtitling software, e.g. EZTitles, Spot, WinCaps, Netflix Originator but not mandatory.
– Awareness about the impact of subtitles on the audience’s enjoyment of the content.
– Creative abilities to uphold the artistic intent of the content.
– Ability to work on subtitle files on a weekly basis.- Have an internet speed of around 10Mb/s.
– Can work on files in a private setting for confidential work.
Training:
Training is done in English via the client’s online training portal and includes a test to pass.
You will have a final training session with a TVT coordinator to prepare you for the test, particularly the subtitle / technical element.
TVT Coordinators based in offices round the globe are available to provide support 24/7
It takes about 1 – 3 days to complete depending on experience of this type of work.
