Whether you are working in public safety, social services, or administration, your contributions will help improve the lives of our residents and build a better future for our county.DescriptionGaston County Public Health is committed to protecting, promoting and preserving the health and well-being of all Gaston County residents.An hourly salary range of $18.55 to $21.57 is anticipated for this position.Examples of DutiesThe duties listed below are not all the duties that may be assigned, but they are those considered essential for an employee to perform.Assist clinic staff nurse, doctors, clinicians and clerical staff with interpreting/translating registration information, health histories, present medical problems, personal data and interpreting/translating instructions and health education information to non-English speaking clients. Performs other duties as assigned.Checks the Spanish call-in line to get information regarding their needs, scheduling the appointment ant/or assisting them in getting answers to any questions or concerns they may have.Schedule appointments for clients with other necessary providers and return visits for non-English speaking clients.Make home visits with medical and/or social work staff when needed to translate for non-English speaking clients when home visit intervention is needed.Provides written translation of forms, pamphlets, or other written materials when needed.As needed, assist in preparedness and emergency response activities in situations that threaten the public’s health (i.e. disease outbreaks, natural disasters, etc.).Performs miscellaneous clerical duties as needed on a daily basis.Carryout Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities, including identifying and communicating performance improvement opportunities and adjusting performance and practice to achieve established PM goals.Implement strategies aimed at achieving Health Equity, including but not limited to attending trainings to better understand inequities, identifying and addressing barriers to health, serving on the Health Equity Team or its subcommittees, engaging in internal or external efforts to eliminate health disparities.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED certificate is required.Valid driver’s licenseKnowledge of medical terminology in both English and the foreign language.Knowledge and acceptance of diverse cultures are required.Must pass foreign language assessment.Additional InformationThe applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employmentIn compliance with G.S.153A-94.2 (b), if the position being filled requires an applicant for employment to work with children in any capacity, the County must require the applicant, if offered the position, to be subject to a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI.
