Project Description
The UK Food Council is looking for an experienced freelance journalist / interviewer to conduct a short series of structured telephone interviews with senior managers and executives across the UK food industry.
Your work will help us understand:
Key pain points facing senior leaders
Their views on current industry trends
How they see the sector evolving over the next 3–5 years
Where they believe the future shape of their part of the industry will be
You will then turn each interview into polished, web-ready copy for publication on the UK Food Council website.
What the Role Involves
Making telephone contact with senior managers / executives in:
Foodservice restaurant groups
Food manufacturers and suppliers
Retail / grocery and wider food sector organisations
Hosting a 15–20 minute structured telephone interview with each participant
Asking agreed questions to explore:
Operational and strategic challenges
Market and consumer trends
Innovation, technology, and investment priorities
Policy / regulation concerns and expectations
Taking good notes or recording (subject to consent) and producing:
A clear, engaging Q&A-style interview or
A well-structured feature article / profile based on the interview
Ensuring the tone and style are suitable for a professional B2B audience and the UK Food Council brand
Delivering copy that is accurate, concise, and ready for web publication, including proposed headings and pull-quotes
Deliverables
For each interview, we expect:
Interview outline / agreed questions (template can be co-developed with us)
A 15–20 minute telephone interview with a senior UK food industry contact
A written piece (800–1,200 words) either:
Edited Q&A, or
Third-person feature / insight article
A short summary paragraph (100–150 words) highlighting key takeaways for use in newsletters and social posts
We will initially commission a pilot batch of interviews, with the opportunity for ongoing work if the collaboration goes well.
Ideal Freelancer
We are particularly interested in hearing from freelancers who:
Have proven experience in journalism, interviewing, or B2B content writing
Are confident speaking with senior executives and can lead a structured, professional telephone interview
