THE NEEDDUAL CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITYTo fill a current vacancy, 8 hours per day, 11 months per year, itinerant for the Multilingual/Multicultural Department at the Education Service Center, and to establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.Under the direction of the Director of Multilingual/Multicultural Programs, provide oral interpretation of communications and written translation of correspondence, forms, letters, reports and other documents between English and designated second language; serve as an interpreter for meetings, assemblies, parent information nights, conferences, IEP meetings and other events.THE CANDIDATEEducation And ExperienceAny combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by college-level coursework in English Language, Spanish Language, Interpretation and Translation, or related courses, AND two years of experience composing, editing, and translating materials in English and the designated second language and providing consecutive or simultaneous oral interpretations during group meetings and in one-to-one situations OR three years of experience in a position performing related duties for which bilingualism in the designated second language is a requirement.An Associate’s degree or a Translation and Interpretation certificate in the designated second language may be substituted for one year of the required experience.Licenses And Other RequirementsValid California driver’s license.Positions(s) require ability to read, write and speak fluently in Spanish or a different designated second language based on District need.THE DETAILSTesting InformationThe examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description.Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be emailed an examination pass. Exam passes will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. A photo ID and the examination pass are required for admittance to the exam.Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the performance examination.Applicants must pass application screening in order to move to the next step in the examination process.Upon qualifying, applicants will be notified by email the procedures to schedule their written examination. Examination notifications will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. A photo ID is required for admittance to the exam.Step 2: Performance Examination (weighted 50%) is tentatively scheduled on Thursday, February 13, 2025. A photo ID is required for admittance to the exam. The exam consists of a two part written examination which includes multiple-choice questions and part two is a computer skills exam.Applicants must pass the written and computer skills examinations to move forward to the next step, (qualifications appraisal interview). Step 3: Qualifications Appraisal Interview (weighted 50%) is tentatively scheduled on Friday, February 21, 2025.All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.Additional Salary InformationNew Hires – Initial Salary PlacementEducationThe District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District.
